THE cage is about to be opened. At 6pm eastern standard time on Friday April 29, Apple Computer will globally unleash Tiger, the latest version of Mac OS X.
You can safely bet some of the first to get the new system software will be Microsoft people eager to see how Tiger compares with Longhorn, the much-delayed re-working of Windows.
Windows XP increasingly looks dated. It is the constant target of hackers, virus writers, spammers and spyware vendors. Longhorn will hopefully address many of those issues, but it’s forever being delayed.
Serious work started in 2003, but it will be well into 2006 before the first full version hits the market.
