Michael Jackson

August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009.

I just would like to take the time out to pay my respects to a musical genius who has inspired us with his amazing gift of song and dance. I have been a major fan of the King of Pop since I was a child. Memorizing his lyrics and dance moves and performing them at church concerts when I was younger. Michael’s dedication to his craft redefined music and the music video art form, influenced many of today’s popular performers. Whether its Usher, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Ne-Yo, Celine Dion, Rihanna and so many others. I remember a description of Michael when I was young as a man with planetary effects. In some way, Michael was a part of our lives and losing him I am sure for many is devastating as losing a loved one. Although I may not have gotten the chance to meet him in person, I feel like I have met him through his many songs and performances. I asked my brother once, suppose Michael died, what would happen? My brother replied, "it would be a sad day around the world". That day has unfortunately arrived, but let us cherish the gift he gave us, music.

The lyrics to the song below is from Michael’s first solo debut album, ‘Music and Me’ (1973), written by Michel Legrand; Smokey Robinson.

Sadness had been close as my next of kin
Then Happy came one day, chased my blues away
My life began when Happy smiled
Sweet like candy to a child
Stay here and love me just a while
Let Sadness see what Happy does
Let Happy be where Sadness was
Happy, that’s you

You made my life brand new
Lost as a little lamb was I till you came in
My life began when Happy smiled
Sweet like candy to a child
Stay here and love me just a while
Let Sadness see what Happy does
Let Happy be where Sadness was
(Till now)

Where have I been?
What lifetime was I in?
Suspended between time and space
Lonely until Happy came smiling up at me
Sadness had no choice but to flee
I said a prayer so silently
Let Sadness see what Happy does
Let Happy be where Sadness was till now

Hollow Man – What If

I have watched this movie a few times, and have said so many times, what if I could become invisible. I wouldn’t go around raping women or kill off all my friends, but I sure would go on a few expeditions. The movie stars Kevin Bacon (Mr. 360 degrees himself) and Elizabeth Shue (what has happened to her?) It’s really a good movie that really makes you wonder. I have learnt and interesting fact though, if you were invisible, you would not be able to sleep and stand exposure to light because your eye lids would be invisible. So, being invisible is not a bed of roses.

Its safe to say that this movie is one in a series of antique historical pieces that has been updated time and again by many directors in Hollywood. Examples include Gladiator, Master & Commander. But this 3 hour epic has been said to be too long and not touching some of the controversial topics fully enough about Alexander that are well known, such as  Alexander’s bi-sexuality. But this movie is only look into one aspect of this legendary conquer and ruler of many nations. A majority of the movie is blood and war, which is bit to much. Leonardo Di Caprio is up next to give us his take on Alexander, we all should know its going to be a little more on the softer side, if you know what I mean.

Emancipation of Mimi – Mariah’s little secret

Well, big music star Mariah Carey is planning to make a come back with her next album cutely titled Emancipation of Mimi, scheduled for release in March 2005. The singer tells fans on her website, that the name was released without her permission or knowing so she decided to talk about with her fans. The artiste also emphasizes that the name Mimi is a special name that’s only used by her closest friends.

Well, its not about the revealing name for me, I just hope she comes back with some of the originality she left at Columbia. So far Glitter and Charm Bracelet have not sparked any original trademark Mariah with me. I hope she also eases down on the Rap guess stars that have plagued her last four albums, leave them for the remixes and singles.
